One of our featured cocktails from Cultivating Cocktails is The Island Hopper. This refreshing and sweet cocktail was made with Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, and Elderflower. This delicious combination was accompanied with a splash of Lime Juice, House-made Simple, and a few dash of smoked chili bitters (courtesy of Hella Bitters Co). Finally, the cocktail was topped with a splash of sparkling grapefruit soda and garnished with a salt & paprika rim and a slither of grapefruit.
I chose this flavor profile to highlight the pairing of tequila with the tartness of the grapefruit. The spiciness of the tequila was further insinuated by the spice of the ginger syrup and paprika rim, giving it levels to its profile.
Interesting fact about the grapefruit is that while there is no way to pinpoint its exact origin; it is stated that there is a back and forth with the belief that it was originated either in Barbados or Jamaica; hence the name Island Hopper.
